Passion for pattern bloghop … and some thoughts on style … und ein paar Stil-Gedanken

Welcome to all bloghoppers, joining me from the inspirational blog of Zoe Attwell. This bloghop catches me at an important moment, in the wake of the first show that I will participate in as surface designer! Like some other bloggers of this hop I am a guest designer for Believe Creative Studio at the upcoming Indigo fair from 19-21 September in Paris. Well experienced dutch Believe Creative Studio is specialized on baby, children and junior designs.

September in Paris teil. Das niederländische Believe Creative Studio ist auf Designs für Babys, Kinder und Teenager spezialisiert.

Now that my designs are sent off, there has been a little time for reflection about style and my journey into surface design. It has been a rather unexpected but inspirational one! When I started studying surface design I was dreaming of beautiful flowery patterns and working from nature, about elegant ornaments, about geometrics, about patterns inspired by oriental tiles or tribal woven designs. Well … that hasn't happened!

What happened was my love of illustration getting in the way! You see, illustration has been my first love, and the reason why I studied "visual communication" all those years ago.
At first, when I found quirky drawings and little characters peeking up in my patterns, I was a bit irritated – this was not going the way that I had planned! Then, with the encouragement to find our own style, I decided to go along with it.

Was passiert ist?

Now this finally led me to what I have done in the last months … working for children's fashion is not what I had planned, but I certainly enjoy it very much!
